Yellow corn flour or Makki atta is a great source of the mineral zinc. This particular mineral is important for the functioning of enzymes. Makki atta also has iron to offer. Every cup of the flour has 2.8 mg of iron in it which meets 35% of the daily iron need for men and 16% for women. Iron gets incorporated into a protein called hemoglobin that is present in red blood cells. Hemoglobin promotes healthy circulation of oxygen. Iron is said to allow your cells to produce energy and helps white blood cells in fighting infection.
Contains carotenoids and vitamin A
Ever wondered where the golden hue in makki atta comes from? Well, it is because of the carotenoid content. Carotenoids are a family of yellow, orange and red pigments. They promote tissue function and fight diseases. Every cup of yellow corn flour adds 250 IU of vitamin A to your food. This meets 11% of daily intake for women and 8% for men.
Good fibre source
Yellow corn flour makes you’re your meal more filling as it absorbs water and swells up in the digestive tract. The fibre present helps in responding properly to insulin and control levels of blood sugar. It helps in lowering blood cholesterol too.
One cup of yellow corn flour has 8.5 g of fibre which meets 34% of the daily fibre need for women and 22% for men.
